Built in 1977, The Mercyhurst Athletic Center better known to staff and students as the MAC is the home of the Lakers and the Athletics Department. The original design featured a blue rubberized court and a multipurpose stage which was used to host Mercyhurst College graduations from 1978 to 1989, until they switched the ceremony location to down town Erie.

Throughout the years the MAC has gone through some significant changes. The first of these renovations occurred in 1982 with the addition of an indoor rowing complex for the men’s and women’s rowing teams, just one of 12 in the entire country. In 1986 the blue rubberized court was taken out and replaced with a hardwood surface to reduce the amount of injuries to the Lakers and visiting teams. Then in 1991 the MAC was expanded to its current size with the addition of the Athletic training room and other upgrades. 1996 the Hall of Fame walkway was created, currently there are over 90 Laker Honorees whose picture grace the entry way to the MAC. Most recently, in 2014 the hardwood court was refurnished with a new logo and color scheme.

The MAC is currently the home of the Lakers men’s and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, and wrestling teams. The 12,000 square foot facility can fit up to 1,500 fans for all home athletic events. It also homes many athletic offices, the sports medicine classrooms, and the athletic training facilities.
