Zimmerman's OT Winner Completes #18 Women's Lacrosse's Comeback Win Over #15 WCU

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- Carly Zimmerman scored the overtime game-winner as the three-seed Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team finished off a 13-12 overtime victory against two-seed West Chester in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal on Saturday.

The Lakers (13-4), who are ranked 18th in NCAA Division II, trailed by four goals with 10:44 remaining in the fourth quarter before storming back with four straight goals. Taylor Izzo pulled the Lakers within 12-9 before Janelle Williams scored back-to-back goals. Kristin Anderson tied the game with 1:18 left in regulation, setting the stage for overtime and Zimmerman's heroics.

Izzo led all Mercyhurst scorers with four goals and two assists while Zimmerman totaled three goals and one assist. Williams, Anderson and Angelina Simon scored two goals each.

Also for the Lakers, Lacey Netti had three assists while Emma Falter, Amy Hoffman and Morgan Parker dished one assist each.

Kira Kolb led the defense with five groundballs and three caused turnovers. Gabby Gravino had eight saves in the cage.

The Lakers had taken the game's first lead as Izzo scored the game's first two goals during a 3-0 Mercyhurst run. West Chester then responded with seven straight goals; MU closed its gap to two goals on two separate occasions, but did not tie the contest until the game-ending run.

Tatum Altman had four goals and two assists while Dina Cifelli chipped in with two goals and four assists for the 15th-ranked Rams. Nicole Martins have seven saves in net.

The Lakers will play in the PSAC Tournament final on Sunday against host East Stroudsburg at 2 p.m. Top-seed ESU defeated Indiana (Pa.) in its semifinal on Saturday.
