ERIE, Pa. --
Carly Zimmerman scored four goals and
Kristin Anderson put in three scores as the third-seed Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team avenged an earlier loss to sixth-seeded Seton Hill with an 11-8 victory in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday at Tullio Field. With the win, the Lakers advanced to the PSAC Tournament semifinals.
Anderson and Zimmerman also had four draw controls apiece. Zimmerman made one assist.
Janelle Williams added two goals for Mercyhurst (12-4) while
Lacey Netti and
Morgan Parker put in one goal apiece.
Taylor Izzo dished three assists and
Angelina Simon added one helper.
Simon also had four groundballs while
Kira Kolb added five GBs.
Gabby Gravino earned the win in net with 12 saves.
Trailing 3-1 in the first half, the Lakers scored six straight goals and led the rest of the way. Zimmerman had three tallies during that stretch while Williams scored both of her goals.
SHU answered with three consecutive goals -- all by Christine Palmeri -- to close its deficit to 7-6 with 18:14 left, but the Lakers then outscored their visitors, 4-2, to pull away.
Palmeri led the Griffins (10-8) with four goals while goalie Meghan Hollar finished with 10 saves.
The Lakers will play next in the PSAC Tournament semifinals when they meet West Chester for a 4 p.m. matchup on Friday.
