INDIANA, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's basketball fell to Indiana (Pa.), 78-61, in the quarterfinal round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday.
Angela Heintz totaled 21 points and six rebounds while
Jalin Steel finished with 18 points and five rebounds for the Lakers (23-7), who were the three-seed in the PSAC West.
PSAC West two-seed Indiana (21-6) was led by Brittany Robinson – one of four Crimson Hawks to score in double-digits — with 14 points. Carolyn Appleby added 13 points for Indiana. Lauren Wolosik and Megan Smith contributed 11 points apiece.
The host Crimson Hawks broke a 5-all tie in the first quarter with seven consecutive points and eventually pushed their lead to 24-12 through one period. That lead continued to grow as IUP took a 44-22 advantage into halftime.
In the fourth quarter, Indiana increased its lead to 74-43 before the Lakers pushed back with a game-ending 18-4 run. Heintz had nine points and Steel put in five during that stretch.
Steel, who entered the game with 999 career points in her collegiate career, reached 1,017 in her four years as both a Mercyhurst Laker and Mercyhurst North East Saint. She had 528 points at MU and 489 at MNE.
