ERIE, Pa. -- Head coach Michael Sisti of the Mercyhurst women's hockey team has announced team captains for the 2016-17 season. Senior defensemen Paige Horton was named team captain while senior defensemen Jillian Skinner, sophomore forward Morgan Stacey and sophomore goaltender Sarah McDonnell were named alternate captains.

Horton enters her fourth season with the Lakers with 91 games played in her collegiate career. The St. Thomas, Ont., native has scored six goals and 16 assists in her career. Horton's most productive season came last year when she tallied two goals and 12 assists for a career-high 14 points.

Skinner will anchor the team defense with Horton. In 91 games as a Laker, she tallied four goals and eighteen assists. Skinner, a native of Markham, Ont., was named to the 2014 College Hockey America All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2014.

Stacey played in 33 games as a freshman in 2015-16 and gathered five points on five helpers after graduating from the Honeybaked Hockey Club program in her native Michigan.

McDonnell started 28 games in net in during her decorated freshman year. The Oakville, Ont., native received the CHA Goaltender Trophy for the lowest goal-against average in conference play (1.75 GAA). She also had a record of 17-6-5 with a .919 save percentage.

The Lakers finished with a 19-11-5 overall record in 2015-16 and won the CHA regular season title for the 14th consecutive time. The Lakers also won the conference postseason tournament, defeating Syracuse, 4-3 in overtime, in the CHA Tournament final. Coach Sisti (429-128-42) enters his 18th season as the Laker head coach and looks to take his squad back to the NCAA Tournament after qualifying last season. The second-ranked Wisconsin Badgers eliminated the Lakers, 6-0, in the National Quarterfinals.

Mercyhurst hosts an exhibition game on Sept. 14 against the Toronto Junior Aeros at 6 p.m. before beginning its regular season schedule Sept. 30 at home against North Dakota at 7 p.m.
