Mercyhurst women's ice hockey player Emily Janiga has reached a contract agreement with the Buffalo Beauts of the National Women's Hockey League, as announced by Buffalo general manager Ric Seiling on Monday. The contract is a one-year deal, allowing the Buffalo native Janiga to enjoy her homecoming.

"Playing professionally in my hometown was only a dream growing up, but now that has changed," said Janiga. "I can't even explain in words how exciting it is to fulfill this dream. I am excited to be back in my hometown to play the sport I love with the support of my family. I am completely honored and humbled by this opportunity."

Janiga was drafted in the inaugural NWHL Draft, which took place in June 2015. She was taken in the fourth round (16th overall) by the Beauts.

During her time with the Lakers, the forward was part of three NCAA Tournament teams, including two which reached the Frozen Four. Janiga was the 2015 CHA Player of the Year -- also claiming the scoring championship. She was a two-time All-CHA First Team player. Through her career, she registered 72 goals and 79 assists for a total of 151 points. In 2015-16, Janiga was captain of the College Hockey America regular-season and tournament champions.

Janiga joins two fellow Mercyhurst graduates on the Buffalo Beauts roster: forwards Shelby Bram and Kelley Steadman.
