ARLINGTON, Va. -- Mercyhurst men's hockey freshman goaltender
Adam Carlson signed a two-year, max-entry level contract with the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League, as announced by the club on Monday.
Â
Carlson, a native of Edina, Minn., is the third player in three years -- and sixth player overall in program history -- to sign an NHL contract. Carlson is the second to do so with the Washington Capitals; alum Jamie Hunt '06 also signed before he was a senior and became the first Laker player to play an NHL game.
Â
The other Lakers to sign NHL contracts include Dan O'Donoghue (Arizona Coyotes), Jody Robinson (New York Islanders), T.J. Kemp (Edmonton Oilers), and Cullen Eddy (Philadelphia Flyers).
Â
Carlson played in 17 games during the 2015-16 season, starting in all but one of them. His first collegiate win came on Oct. 24 against Army West Point, when he made 33 saves in a 5-2 Laker victory.
Â
Carlson's overall season record was 7-7-3 with a goals-against average of 2.85 and save percentage of .919. During the season, Carlson made a total of 536 saves between the pipes against the 583 shots he faced. His season-high for saves (50) came on Jan. 22 at Robert Morris.
Â
Carlson will be joining the American Hockey League's Hershey Bears on an amateur tryout agreement immediately.
