ERIE, Pa. - Senior forward
Emily Janiga of the Mercyhurst University women's hockey team has been selected to participate again at the USA Hockey Women's National Festival later this month in Lake Placid, New York.
The Festival, which takes place August 11 through August 16, is a training session that will also be used to select two 22-player rosters for a pair of series against Canada that will be held simultaneously from August 19 through August 23 in Lake Placid. The U.S. entries will feature an Under-18 Select Team and Under-22 Select Team.
This marks the second straight year Janiga has been invited to the Festival.
Janiga played in all 35 games last season and served as a team co-captain. She led College Hockey America (CHA) in goals (27), points (45), and power-play goals (11). For her efforts, Janiga was named the CHA Player of the Year, earned the league's Scoring Champion Award, and was an All-Conference First Team selection.
She recorded 41 points in each of her first two seasons and, after being named to the College Hockey America All-Rookie Team as a freshman, was named to the All-CHA First Team as a sophomore.
Janiga and the Lakers will begin their 17th season of varsity hockey when they entertain the Buffalo Beauts of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) on Friday, September 25 in an exhibition tilt. Faceoff from the Mercyhurst Ice Center is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
