ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's basketball team will host Edinboro tomorrow afternoon at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center (MAC). The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division matchup will tipoff at 3:00 p.m. The Lakers look to rebound after two straight losses on the road, to bring their overall record to 15-7, 12-5 (PSAC). Edinboro comes into Saturday 11-10, 8-9 PSAC.
Mercyhurst enters Saturday night's game after falling to rival Slippery Rock Wednesday at Morrow Field House, 56-51.
Jean Onana led the Lakers, posting 12 points on 4-9 shooting from the field, and
Kayode Ajenifuja pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds.
Damon Jones continues to lead the team in scoring average, recording 10.7 points per game, while
Gerrae Williams trails, averaging 10.3. Mercyhurst is coming off back-to-back losses for the first time since the beginning of the season when they dropped their first two games.
Edinboro battled PSAC Western leader Gannon Wednesday night at McComb Field House but suffered their tenth loss of the season, falling 66-61. Henri Wade-Chatman scored a game-high 26 points, as he leads the PSAC in scoring, averaging 19.2 points per game. The Fighting Scots are another highly touted defensive unit, holding opponents to 65.4 points per game which is fourth best in the conference, behind Mercyhurst (62.2).
Mercyhurst went on to sweep the Fighting Scots a season ago, beating Edinboro, 77-65, in overtime at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center (MAC) and 62-60 at McComb Fieldhouse on a last second layup by
Anthony Lytle.
A win Saturday will put the Lakers in position to clinch a PSAC tournament berth, when they host Indiana (Pa.) Wednesday, February 11. They can also clinch a tournament berth with a win over Pitt-Johnstown Wednesday, February 18.
