Lakers Host National Girls and Women in Sports Day Feb. 2

ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst athletic department will host an event as part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Saturday, February 2. The event will take place at the California (Pa.) at Mercyhurst women's basketball game at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.


 
Girls in grades K-8 will receive free admission to the 1 p.m. game and are invited to a reception in the rec center attached to the MAC.  The reception opens at 11:30 a.m. with interactive stations.
 
The event is one of more than 1,000 events taking place across the country for National Girls and Women in Sports Day, which is February 6. Congress has proclaimed this national day each year since 1987. It recognizes the progress of girls and women in sports and the benefits that sports and fitness activities can bring to the lives of all girls and women. The Day is organized nationally by the Girl Scouts of the USA, Girls Incorporated, National Association for Girls and Women in Sport, the National Women's Law Center and the Women's Sports Foundation ®.
