Duffy Signs With Lake Erie Crushers Of Frontier League

Former Mercyhurst standout Brad Duffy has signed with the Lake Erie Crushers in the Frontier League.
AVON, Ohio - Former Mercyhurst baseball standout Brad Duffy will continue his career after signing with the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Duffy, a native of Fombell, Pennsylvania, had a stellar senior season with the Lakers, helping lead the team to their third PSAC West title in four seasons and their third trip to the NCAA Atlantic Regional in the past four seasons. Mercyhurst finished the year with a 39-17 record, one win shy of its second consecutive 40-win season.

The righthander posted a 7-1 record with a 3.34 earned run average during the 2012 season, picking up a complete-game shutout victory over Millersville in the PSAC tournament, and picking up the Lakers' only victory in the NCAA playoffs after recording a 6-5 win over Kutztown in the opening game of the regional. In 72 and two-thirds innings, Duffy allowed just 63 hits, limiting opponents to a .228 batting average, while striking out 92 batters. His 11.39 strikeouts per nine innings ranked him ninth in all of Division II.

In two seasons with the Lakers, Duffy went 11-2 with a 2.84 earned run average. In 111 career innings, the righthander struck out 146 batters and limited opponents to a .210 batting average.

The Crushers (13-18) are currently tied for fifth in the Frontier League's Eastern Division, one-half game behind the Washington Wild Things for fourth place in the standings. The Wild Things feature former Mercyhurst standout, and current Laker pitching coach, Steve Grife, on its roster. Lake Erie is eight games out of first place in the East.
