ERIE, Pa.- The Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team has named its captains for the 2013 season.
Peter Plaskey,
Brian Scheetz, and
Zac Reid will be tri-captains for Coach
Chris Ryan's squad this year.
Plaskey started all 14 games last season, establishing himself as one of the Lakers' top defenders. At 6'4”, he brings a physical presence on the back end. He collected 25 groundballs and caused 19 turnovers while leading the team in penalties with 13. The Lakers recorded the first undefeated regular season in school history for any sport.
In 2011, Plaskey started all 16 contests on defense, helping Mercyhurst win the NCAA Championship. As a freshman, the Beverly Hills, Michigan, native appeared in eight matches.
Scheetz has been one of the top players in the nation since becoming a Laker. He was named 2012 Lt. Col. J.L. Turnbull Award winner as the Most Outstanding Attackman in Division II. Scheetz was also a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) First Team All-American, All-East Coast Conference (ECC) First Team, and Capital One Academic All-District At-Large. The Canandaigua, New York, native is the Mercyhurst career points leader with 161 in three seasons.
Reid had his best season as a Laker in 2012, starting all 14 games. He finished fourth on the team with 27 points, including 14 goals. Reid ranked second on the team with 13 assists. The St. Catherines, Ontario, native posted nine multi-point games and scored twice in the team's NCAA Semifinal game.
In 2012, the Lakers recorded the first undefeated regular season in school history in any sport. They have been picked #1 in the 2013 Inside Lacrosse Top 10, released last month.
