Women's Basketball Falls at #3 Edinboro Wednesday

EDINBORO, Pa.- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team lost, 71-41, to third-ranked Edinboro Wednesday evening at McComb Fieldhouse. The Lady Scots led 45-16 at halftime on their way to a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division victory.

Edinboro jumped out to a 10-1 lead six minutes into the game, as the Scots' pressure overwhelmed the Lakers. Lindsey Burke came off the bench to hit a three-pointer, but the hosts quickly expanded the margin to 19 midway through the first half. Layups by Nikki Frederickson and Kelsey Trosch could not slow Boro's momentum, as Kerry Connelly's trey put the Scots ahead 43-14 with 2:41 left.

After two Edinboro (17-0, 13-0 PSAC) free throws to start the second half, Megan Hoffman drained a triple to make it 48-19. The home team kept the pressure on, eventually stretching the lead further.

Hoffman and Kaylee Foster each scored eight points. Hoffman, Katie Carbee, and Frederickson each grabbed five rebounds. Samantha Blazetic led the Scots with 18 points and seven boards. The Lakers out-rebounded Edinboro, 38-35.

Hurst (8-9, 6-7 PSAC) travels to California (Pa.) Saturday, January 28, for another PSAC West outing. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
