Agosta Ties NCAA Goals Record in 4-2 Win at Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior captain Meghan Agosta scored her 150th career goal in a 4-2 win at Syracuse Saturday afternoon, tying her with former Harvard forward Nicole Correiro for most goals in NCAA women's hockey history.

Agosta, who now has 150 goals in 130 games, needs just one to own two of the top-three NCAA scoring records, after breaking Julie Chu's all-time points mark last weekend against Wayne State.

Agosta led all scorers in the Lakers' eighth straight win (26-5-0, 15-0-0 CHA) by totaling three points on a goal and two assists.

Junior Jess Jones and senior assistant captain Vicki Bendus both accumulated two points apiece, with Jones netting two scores and Bendus tallying a goal and an assist.

Junior Hillary Pattenden sealed the win in net by turning aside 15 shots. She now has allowed two goals or less in seven straight appearances (7-0-0).

Both teams traded goals in the first period before Mercyhurst went on a 3-0 run with two in the second and one in the third to secure its 13th straight win over the Orange in program history (13-0-0).

Jones opened the game with her 11th of the season at the 3:06 mark, less than seven minutes before Syracuse's Holly Carrie-Mattimoe made it a 1-1 game at 9:43.

The Lakers then broke the tie in the second thanks to another score from Jones at 14:56 and Agosta's on the power play with 59 seconds to play.

Bendus got in on the scoring action in the third, making it a 4-1 game with 3:01 showing on the clock.

The Orange closed out the game when Margot Scharfe found the back of the net exactly six minutes after Bendus' tally at 9:01.

Mercyhurst held Syracuse in check with a lofty shot advantage, 44-17, while occupying 10 minutes of the game on the power play (1-for-5). SU finished 0-for-2.

With next weekend off, the Lakers return to action on Friday, Feb. 25 when they host College Hockey America rival Robert Morris at 7 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
