Lakers Cruise Past Brown, 12-0

ERIE, Pa. – Senior forward Vicki Bendus registered three goals to lead eight different Lakers in scoring as the No. 5 Mercyhurst College women's ice hockey team powered past Brown, 12-0.  Head coach Michael Sisti earned his 300th career victory, becoming just the seventh coach all-time to reach the milestone and the second-fastest to do so in the Division I era.
 
Mercyhurst moves to 18-4-0 overall while Brown falls to 2-12-3.
 
The Lakers netted three goals in the opening stanza, and then added two more in the middle frame before turning on the power with seven goals in the third period.
 
Stephanie Ciampa and Ashley Harper combined for the Lakers' third-straight shutout, with Ciampa spending nearly 57 minutes between the pipes, tallying 11 saves
 
Cassea Schols opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 8:52 before Bendus and Lauren Jones scored even-strength goals at 10:38 and 15:36, respectively.
 
In the second, the Lakers made the most of the power play as they connected on two of three chances.  Bendus found the back of the net at 15:59 and Christine Bestland put the Lakers on the board with a 5-0 lead after her goal at 18:41.
 
A three-goal burst in just 1-minute, 43 seconds highlighted a fast and furious third.  After Bailey Bram netted a goal just 43 seconds into the final frame, Jess Jones registered her long goal of the contest at 4:09 to start the scoring frenzy.  Lauren Jones followed with her second goal of the game 28 seconds later before Bram capped added another goal just over a minute later to give the Lakers a 9-0 advantage just under six minutes through the period.
 
Another scoring scoring burst ended the game as Christie Cicero, Bendus and Kelley Steadman combined for three goals in just over two minutes.  Cicero tallied her first goal of the game at 8:02, with Bendus finding the back of the net at 10:29 and Steadman quickly following at 11:11.

All told, the Lakers had eight different players score goals in the balanced attack and 12 different players register assists.

Bram led all scorers in the game with a career-high six points on two goals and four assists. Bendus tallied a hat trick and totaled five points, Bestland had a goal and three assists and Agosta dished out three helpers.

Lauren Jones scored twice, Steadman netted a goal and an assist and Jess Jones and Schols each added goals.
 
Mercyhurst is next in action on Tuesday, Jan. 18 when they host No. 2 Cornell.  The Lakers defeated the Big Red 4-3 in overtime on Nov. 2 to mark Cornell's only loss on the year.
