Seven Lakers Earn All-PSAC Honors

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Seven members of the No. 6 Mercyhurst College women’s lacrosse team earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference postseason honors, it was announced Wednesday morning by PSAC officials.

Sophomore Ally Keirn and juniors Kimberly Masterton and Maggie Yackel highlighted Mercyhurst on the All-PSAC Western Division First Team, marking the second-straight year the Lakers garnered three selections on the top squad. Seniors Kristie Jennings, Meghan Dwyer and Maeve McGoff joined junior Jordan Hogan as second-team honorees.

Mercyhurst had the second most selections on the Western Division all-conference team, falling one shy of conference champion Lock Haven with eight. The Lady Eagles also captured two of three major honors, as Kristen Selvage was named coach of the year and Leigh Titus was tabbed athlete of the year. Gannon's Jessica Fugate was honored as rookie of the year.

Keirn, an attacker from Henrietta, N.Y., led the conference as well as the nation in points with 104. She scored 47 goals and added 57 assists, setting a new school-record for points in a season. Additionally, she added a team-leading 39 ground balls and captured 20 draw controls.

Masterton earned her second first-team honor after scoring a team-best 50 goals while adding 34 assists for 84 points. The Penfield, N.Y., product and Laker midfielder tallied at least two points in each of the team’s 18 games and marked five or more in nine contests. She also tied for the team-lead in caused turnovers with 23.

Yackel joined Masterton as a repeat first-team honoree. Through 16 games the Camilus, N.Y., native recorded 36 ground balls and caused 23 turnovers at defense, including three or more on five different occasions.

Jennings, an attacker from Whitby, Ontario, made her second appearance on the second team thanks to a season in which she scored 32 goals and tallied 53 points. She recorded nine games of five or more points and four games of four or more goals.

The Lakers’ final three selections played an important role on defense, limiting opponents to under nine goals per game and creating numerous turnovers.

One of only five Lakers to start in all 18 games this season, Dwyer produced Mercyhurst with 21 ground balls, 25 draw controls and eight caused turnovers. Hogan, meanwhile, started in 17 of 18 games played with 24 ground balls, six draw controls and 13 caused turnovers.

McGoff recorded a 16-2 record with an 8.70 goals against average and a .513 save percentage. She turned aside 121 of the 291 shots she faced, including 10 or more five times this season. She also added 31 ground balls and caused nine turnovers.
