ERIE, Pa. – Mercyhurst College women’s rower Amanda Carlyon has been named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association 2010 Pocock All-America Team. The award recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains at NCAA Division II Institutions.

A sophomore from Stow, Ohio, Carlyon makes her first appearance on the prestigious All-America list.
Carlyon has been a two-year member of the Lakers’ varsity eight which will compete as an at-large bid in the 2010 NCAA Rowing Championships May 28-30.

The Lakers are seeded second and will face Florida Tech and Seattle Pacific in the Division II heats at 11 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. PST (2 p.m. EST).

In 2010, Carlyon has helped guide the Lakers to gold medals in four out of five races, including a second consecutive gold at the Dad Vail Regatta.

In 2009, Carlyon was an integral part of the Lakers’ unit that was ranked No. 1 in the country for a majority of the spring season. Mercyhurst would go on to finish as runners-up at the 2009 NCAA Championships.

A season ago, Mercyhurst landed two on the All-America squad in coxswain Michele Handzel and Leah Niecgorski
