CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Sophomore
Ally Keirn was named a First Team All-American by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Wednesday, highlighting a list four Lakers honored by the governing body of women’s lacrosse.
Along with Keirn, juniors
Kimberly Masterton and
Maggie Yackel and senior
Maeve McGoff all garnered spots on the second team, marking the first time Mercyhurst earned four All-Americans in the same season.
Overall, 32 student-athletes were honored with a selection on the Division II All-American teams. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on June 12, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
Keirn, an attacker from Henrietta, N.Y., led the Lakers in scoring with 104 points, setting a new single-season record. She scored 47 goals and dished out a program-best 57 assists in 18 games. Keirn marked a point in every game played and totaled multiple points in 17 contests.
Masterton, a midfielder from Penfield, N.Y., led the team in goals (50) and ranked second in overall scoring (84) through 18 games played. She tallied at least two points in each of the team’s 18 games and marked five or more in nine contests.
Yackel helped anchor a Laker defense that allowed just under nine goals a game (8.72). Through 16 games the Camilus, N.Y., native recorded 36 ground balls and caused 23 turnovers at defense, including three or more on five different occasions.
McGoff, a goalkeeper from Terrace Park, Ohio, guided the Lakers to a 16-2 record in 2010. She recorded an 8.70 goals against average and a .513 save percentage by turning aside 121 of the 291 shots faced, including 10 or more on five different occasions.
