Three Lakers Earn CWPA Postseason Honors

Freshman Lisett Calderon was named CWPA Western Division Rookie of the Year.
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – Three members of the Mercyhurst College women’s water polo team earned Collegiate Water Polo Association postseason honors Friday evening at the league’s annual Hall of Fame banquet.
Junior
Rachel Griepsma was named to the CWPA Western Division First Team, while sophomore
Laura Perez garnered a spot on the Second Team. Freshman
Lisett Calderon was tabbed CWPA Western Division Rookie of the Year.
Griepsma made her third consecutive appearance on the first team after leading the Lakers in scoring with 52 goals and 66 points through 22 games this season.
Perez earned her first-ever CWPA postseason honor thanks to a season in which she ranked third on the team in scoring with 27 goals and 15 assists. She also placed first in drawn ejections (32) and second in steals (30).
Calderon becomes the first Mercyhurst player to earn CWPA Rookie of the Year honors since Griepsma captured the title in 2008. In 23 games this season, she scored 25 goals and tallied 32 assists for 57 points while adding 36 steals and 24 drawn ejections.
