ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Mercyhurst College women’s water polo team ended its season Saturday afternoon with a third-place finish at the 2010 Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division Championship at the University of Michigan’s Canham Natatorium.

Mercyhurst fell to No. 15 Indiana, 11-1, before bouncing back with a 12-6 victory over cross-town rival Gannon in the third-place game.

The Lakers (10-13) got three goals apiece from junior Rachel Griepsma and sophomore Laura Perez. Griepsma scored the team’s lone goal against the Hoosiers and found the back of the net twice against the Golden Knights. Perez did all of her damage against Gannon, leading all goal scorers with a hat trick.

Junior Nicole Nelson scored twice, and junior Alyssa Katerberg and freshman Lisett Calderon and sophomore Tara Bouma added a goal apiece.

Sophomore Hope Rozelle went 1-1 on the day with nine saves against Indiana and nine against Gannon. Senior Cathi Korenich also contributed in goal, stopping three shots against the Golden Knights.
