ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst College women’s water polo team rolled to its seventh win of the season Tuesday evening, downing cross-town rival Penn State Behrend, 12-2, on Senior Night at the Junker Center.
Playing as the designated home team in their only home contest of the season, the Lakers (7-12) sent seniors
Jenna Jefferds and
Cathi Korenich out in style, downing the Lions for the third time this season and sixth time in the past four seasons.
Mercyhurst moved to 12-4 in the all-time series against Behrend thanks to a balanced attack that saw 13 players get on the stat sheet.

Lisett Calderon led the offense with four points apiece. Griepsma scored two goals and added two assists, and Calderon netted a goal and dished out three helpers.

The Lakers took over the game in the first quarter, jumping out to a 6-1 lead. Two more goals followed in the second to give MC an 8-1 advantage at halftime. Following a 1-0 third quarter in favor of Behrend, the Lakers capped the game with a 4-0 run in the final stanza.
Korenich (4-0) captured the win with three saves.
Mercyhurst returns to action this weekend at the 2010 Grove City Invitational. The Lakers will take on host Grove City in the early game at 11 a.m. before facing Washington & Jefferson in the night cap at 5:30 p.m.
