CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – Freshman Brian Scheetz of the Mercyhurst College men's lacrosse team has been named East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week, league officials announced on Monday evening.

Scheetz led the Lakers to a pair of wins over North Carolina foes St. Andrews and Wingate with a seven-goal, five-assist performance in his rookie debut.

The Canandaigua, N.Y. native scored three goals and added three assists in an 18-0 win over St. Andrews, becoming the first Mercyhurst player to score six points in a season opener since the 2005 season. He followed up the game with four goals and two assists in a 19-5 victory over Wingate just a few days later.

Mercyhurst returns to action this weekend at No. 7 Dowling on Saturday, March 6 in Oaksdale, N.Y.
