Water Polo Drops Two to Close Out Wolverine Invite

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Mercyhurst College women's water polo team dropped its final two games of the 2010 Wolverine Invitational Saturday afternoon, falling to Siena, 6-2, and Iona, 17-8.

The Lakers (0-9) saw both games slip away in the second half despite trailing by three goals or less at halftime.

Against Siena, Mercyhurst played to a 1-1 tie in the first and trailed by a goal, 3-2, leading into break. The Saints pulled away with three goals in the second half, scoring once in the third and twice in the fourth.

Sophomore Laura Perez led the Lakers with both goals.

Iona defeated the Lakers with a 9-3 scoring advantage through the final 16 minutes after building an 8-5 lead in the first half.

Sophomore Jessica Clemente and freshman Lisett Calderon scored three goals apiece, while juniors Chrissy Becks and Rachel Griepsma each found the back of the net once.

Mercyhurst returns to action on Friday, Mar. 19 with a 7 p.m. contest at Gannon.
