Water Polo Falls to Michigan, 17-2

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Mercyhurst College women’s water polo team dropped the opening game of the Michigan Invitational, falling by a 17-2 score to the host institution, the Univ. of Michigan, Friday, March 12.
The Lakers now hold an 0-7 season record, 0-1 in CWPA play, while Michigan is 17-6, 2-0 in conference play after defeating Mercyhurst and Gannon Friday.
The Wolverines took a 7-1 lead after one quarter of play, and held an 8-2 halftime advantage following a 1-1 second quarter. Michigan then outscored the Lakers 9-0 during the second half for a 17-2 victory.
Rachel Griepsma and
Laura Perez each scored one goal for the Lakers.
Cathi Korenich made three saves, and
Hope Rozelle stopped two shots.
Mercyhurst will take on Siena and Iona Saturday, March in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Lakers play against Siena at 1:30 p.m. and vs. Iona at 5:45 p.m.
