INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Mercyhurst College men's basketball team ranks 10th in the NCAA Atlantic Region Rankings, as announced today by the Division II Men's Basketball Committee.
West Liberty ranks first in the region, followed by PSAC West rival IUP. St. Augustine's, West Virgnia State and East Stroudsburg round out the top five.
The Lakers, who have won two straight and four of their last six contests, enter the regional rankings for the first time this season heading into the last week of conference play. Mercyhurst has been quietly surging and can clinch a PSAC West playoff berth with a win tonight at Gannon. The Lakers (17-8, 7-5 PSAC West) are looking for their first postseason appearance as members of the PSAC and possibly the program's first-ever NCAA nod.
The regional rankings will be released weekly on Wednesdays through March 3, 2010. The top eight teams in each region advance to the NCAA regional tournaments. Selections for the NCAA regional tournaments will take place via a Web cast selection show on NCAA.com, Sunday, March 7 at approximately 9:30 p.m.
