BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – Junior Rachel Griepsma of the Mercyhurst College women’s water polo team has been named Women’s Varsity Western Division Player of the Week, Collegiate Water Polo Association officials announced on Tuesday.

Griepsma tallied 17 goals for the Lakers at the 2010 Bison Invitational this past weekend in Lewisburg, Pa.

Following two goals in a 14-5 loss to the host Bison of Bucknell, she posted her team's offense in a 10-5 loss to Wagner College to start a string of three-straight five-goal games.  She concluded the weekend with five markers in narrow losses to Siena College (7-6 L) and Villanova University (11-10 L OT) to lead the conference in scoring this week.

For her career, the 2009 Association of College Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America First Team selection has 145 goals to rank fourth in program history.

Mercyhurst returns to action in three weeks at the 2010 Siena Invitational on Saturday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6 in Albany, N.Y.
