Mercyhurst Athletics

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College women’s water polo team fell 11-10 in overtime to Villanova at the Bison Invitational Saturday, Feb. 13 at Bucknell University.

Junior Rachel Griepsma totaled five goals on the evening to lead the Lakers, while freshman Lisett Calderon notched two goals. Juniors Alyssa Katerberg and Nicole Nelson and freshman Laura Hennessy added one marker apiece.

Mercyhurst took at 2-1 lead after one quarter, and was ahead 5-4 at halftime. Villanova struck back with a 3-1 third quarter, but the Lakers responded by scoring twice during the final quarter to tie the game at 8-8. Villanova outscored Mercyhurst 2-1 during the first overtime session, and a 1-1 second overtime provided the Wildcats with an 11-10 victory.
 
Mercyhurst is now 0-2 on the season, and plays Wagner Sunday, Feb. 14 at 9:45 a.m.
