Rachel Griepsma of the Mercyhurst College women’s water polo team has been named to Collegiate Water Polo Association All-Western Division First Team, announced Friday evening by CWPA league officials. For Griepsma, this is her second straight appearance on the first team after earning the honor last season as a freshman.
Griepsma, the 2008 CWPA Western Division Rookie of the Year, becomes the second Laker in program history to earn first team honors in back-to-back seasons. The Lindsay, Ontario native led Mercyhurst in scoring with 48 goals and 54 points in just 19 games. Her 2.52 goals per game average ranks second in team history only behind her mark of 3.47 set during the 2008 campaign.
With her 80 goals and 16 assists from her freshman debut, Griepsma currently ranks fourth all-time in goals (128) and fifth all-time in points (150) in the Mercyhurst record books.
