Laker Goalie Makes "Saves for Kids"
Saves for Kids
Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst College lacrosse goalie Jason LaShomb is making his saves count for more than just his fellow Lakers. He’s $156 shy of granting a child’s wish through the Make A Wish Foundation, thanks to a campaign he personally inaugurated earlier in the season called “Saves for Kids,” through which sponsors donate a flat rate for each save he makes in the Lakers 14-game schedule.

Saturday’s 2 p.m. home game against Wheeling Jesuit is the second to last opportunity he’ll have to reach his goal of $3,500, which is the cost of a single child’s wish. The team’s last contest is at home against New York Tech on May 2.

With flat donations of $2,006, and another $1,337.70 that he’s generated from his 98 saves on the season – an average of $13.65 per save – LaShomb has raised $3,343.70. He’s hoping that a few more saves, pledges and outright donations will put him over the top.

The senior elementary/special education major said he feels grateful for both his personal and team successes and said his motivation with the “Saves for Kids” campaign is to give back to his community.
Mercyhurst’s starting goalie for the past two years, LaShomb earned the Kelly Award for Most Outstanding Goalie in Division II and was also named to the All-American Team and East Coast Conference 1st Team, while maintaining a 3.7 GPA.

If you would like to help with LaShomb’s cause, come on out to Saturday’s game and cheer the team on. To contribute to the Saves for Kids campaign, contact the Make A Wish Foundation at 868-9474.
