Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Mercyhurst College women's water polo team suffered three setbacks to finish in eighth place this past weekend at the 2009 ECAC Championship, hosted by Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
The Lakers (0-4) fell to Marist and St. Francis (N.Y.) by the scores of 12-6 and 8-6 on Saturday before dropping a 12-9 decision to Siena in the seventh place game on Sunday.
Brown University captured the ECAC Championship with a 10-8 overtime victory over host Marist while Wagner toppled George Washington, 9-8, in the third place game. Iona defeated St. Francis (N.Y.), 11-6, to round out the placing.
Mercyhurst heads west this weekend to participate in the 2009 Cal Lutheran Invitational on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7 in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The Lakers will take Fresno Pacific, Cal State Monterey Bay, Redlands and UC Santa Cruz during the two day event.
