ERIE, Pa. – Even though it’s the offseason, the Mercyhurst College men’s lacrosse team has been quite busy as the third-ranked Lakers have been involved in several community service projects in the Erie area.

Most recently, head coach Chris Ryan and his team spent the past week at McKinley Elementary School where they helped students and faculty organize and facilitate their annual Christmas store.

More than 40 players, in addition to athletes from the Mercyhurst field hockey and softball teams, came out in support as they escorted students around to purchase gifts for their families.

McKinley assistant principal Karin Ryan, a 1994 graduate of Mercyhurst and former athlete herself, was even more pleased in the turnout and support from the Mercyhurst athletes.

“We could not have done it without the student-athletes of Mercyhurst College,” Ryan said. “It made me proud as an alumnus to see the Mercyhurst athletic community lending a helping hand, and it clearly demonstrates the quality of student-athletes that Mercyhurst College attracts."
