Men's Cross Country Takes 17th at Atlantic Regional

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College men’s cross country team concluded its 2009 season with a 17th place finish at the 2009 NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship on Saturday morning in Mansfield, Pa.

The Lakers accumulated 456 points to beat out Wheeling Jesuit, Davis & Elkins, Gannon and Shaw. Shippensburg claimed the team title with 39 points, followed by Edinboro with 56, Lock Haven with 62, East Stroudsburg with 118 and Bloomsburg with 185. The top two teams and top two individuals advance to the 2009 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Evansville, Ind.

Junior Tomas Bolger led the Lakers with a 53rd-place time of 34:09. Freshman Ryan Haylett was the second runner to cross the tape, taking 69th place with a time of 34:36. Classmate Nick Stolar came in at 104th with a mark of 35:54. Sophomore Steven Lovewell and senior Andrew Rusnak finished four spots apart at 113th and 117th with times of 36:40 and 36:56, while senior Kevin Flanagan rounded out the 21-team race with a reading of 38:38, good enough for 128th.
