Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's cross country team finished fourth with a total of 112 in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational 5K race on Saturday afternoon behind another strong performance by
Christie Turak.
Turak won the race with a time of 17:32.21, breaking the meet record time of 18:14.0 that was set by Audrey Noonan of George Washington in 1996. Turak won in dominate fashion at Carnegie Mellon, crossing the finish-line over one minute ahead of her nearest competitor.
It was a solid afternoon for the entire Laker team, with all seven runners finishing 65th or better overall, and 57th or better in team scoring, in a race that had 158 runners cross the finish line.
Cherie Jackson and
Jennifer Mieczkowski both recorded top-20 performances for the Lakers, finishing in 20:17.26 and 20:25.76 respectively.
Rounding out the scoring for Mercyhurst were
Rebecca Roberts in 32nd,
Jennifer Hoobler in 47th,
Clara Strasenburgh in 51st, and
Amanda Ehrbar in 57th.
The Lakers return to action when they host the Mercyhurst Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 17 in Erie, Pa.
