Erie, Pa. – Mercyhurst College wrestling coach Mike Wehler has announced the hiring of Brandon Reasy as his graduate assistant wrestling coach for the 2008-09 season. Reasy replaces Paul Bergman, who served in the same position for the past two years.
Reasy was a three-time NCAA Division II All-American at the University of Pitt-Johnstown, finishing his career with a record of 114-40. He ranks ninth all-time in wins at Pitt-Johnstown, picking up two East region championships in three trips to the finals. Pitt Johnstown finished in the top seven in the country in all four of Reasy’s seasons and won three NCAA Division II East Regional Championships. He was equally impressive in the classroom, being named a four-time academic All-American and graduating with a degree in secondary education – citizenship. He will be working towards his master’s degree in special education at Mercyhurst.
At Mercyhurst, Reasy will join a program he is very familiar with. Mercyhurst and Pitt Johnstown have a strong rivalry as two of the top programs in the East region over the past few years and he defeated freshman Lance Pitcel at 133 pounds in a dual match a year ago. The Mercyhurst wrestling team finished ninth at the NCAA Division II Championships a year ago, the highest finish in program history. Graduate Hudson Harrison advanced to the championship match, becoming the third wrestler in the program’s first seven years to be a national runner-up.
