Toronto, Ontario – Three Mercyhurst College women’s ice hockey players have been selected to the Canadian National Women’s Under-22 Team, announced Sunday evening by Hockey Canada officials in Toronto, Ontario.
Junior Meghan Agosta, sophomore Vicki Bendus and incoming freshman Bailey Bram will represent their native country as they take on the United States Women’s Under-22 Select Team in a three-game series from August 20-23 in Pierrefonds, Quebec.
Agosta, who makes her third appearance on the squad, will also serve as captain for the 2008-09 season. The Ruthven, Ontario native was influential in team’s success this past year, contributing 12 points in four games during the 2008 European Air Canada Cup to claim gold and cap off a perfect 7-0 record.
Bendus and Bram earn spots for the first time. Bendus, a second year forward from Wasaga Beach, Ontario, earned College Hockey America’s Rookie of the Year award last season after scoring 11 goals and 21 assists for 32 points. She also picked up one multi-goal game while accumulating eight multi-point contests.
Bram, who enters her first season with the Mercyhurst women’s ice hockey team this fall, joins the U-22 roster after winning silver with the Canadian Under-18 Team this past winter at the U-18 World Championships. She also won bronze with Team Manitoba at the 2007 Canadian Winter Games.
Mercyhurst opens the 2008-09 campaign with an exhibition contest against Guelph on September 27 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Face-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
