Erie, Pa. – Mercyhurst men’s and women’s tennis coach Ray Yost has announced the addition of one men’s tennis and one women’s tennis player for the 2008-09 season. As well, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rewarded four women’s tennis players as Academic All-Americans for the 2007-08 season.
The men’s tennis team has added Mike Aronson from Cleveland, Ohio. Aronson spent a year at Mercyhurst North East, where he was named to the dean’s list, after graduating from Beachwood High School. He has a top 100 ranking in U.S. juniors and has experience as a competitor in the U.S. Nationals and Super Nationals circuits.
The women’s tennis team has added Courtney Conway, a freshman from Grand Island, N.Y. She attended Sacred Heart Academy, where she was named first team All-Catholic and was a playoff finalist. She also competed in volleyball, basketball and softball and posted a stellar academic record in high school.
The Mercyhurst women’s tennis team was one of 42 named an All-Academic Team by the ITA, posting a combined team grade point average of at least 3.2. Four players were named Academic All-Americans for achieving a 3.5 grade point average or better. They were graduate Jen Daly, senior Jaclyn McLean, junior Meghan Raynor, and sophomore Kim Ezzo.
The men’s tennis team opens its season Sept. 6 at Hobart at 1 p.m. and the women’s tennis team opens its season Sept. 13 by hosting Penn State Behrend at 11 a.m.
