OTTENSHEIM, AUSTRIA – Brandon and Kurtis Boyd will be representing Team Canada in the final heat of the lightweight eight at the 2008 World Rowing Championships. Kurtis will be a senior on the Mercyhurst rowing team in the upcoming year and Brandon is an alumnus of the school and rowing program.
The Canadian lightweight eight crew gutted out a second place finish in the repechage heat to take the final qualifying spot in the finals. The Boyd brothers helped Canada overtake Australia in the final quarter of the race.
The finals will take place Sunday. The Mercyhurst rowing team is coached by Adrian Spracklen and had a banner season in 2007-08. The Lakers won the lightweight four championship at the Dad Vail Regatta, placed second in the varsity pair, and finished fifth in the heavyweight four.
