Jamie Walczak have both been selected to start in the Coastal Plains League All-Star Game. Grife will be the starting pitcher and Walczak will start in the outfield for the American League. Walczak will also be a participant in the league’s home run derby.
The home run derby takes place Monday and the game will be played Tuesday at McCrary Park in Asheboro, N.C.
Grife is 3-0 with a 1.66 ERA in 38.0 innings so far in the summer league. He has 45 strikeouts and opponents are batting just .198 against him. Earlier in the year, he threw his first career no-hitter, striking out 12 batters.
Walczak is hitting .309 in 139 at-bats in the Coastal Plains League, adding 12 doubles, a pair of homers, and 21 RBI. He also ranks second in the league with 35 runs scored and has 10 stolen bases.
The Coastal Plains League is a wood bat summer league in the southeastern United States that attracts players from ACC and SEC schools. Others selected to the All-Star game play at schools such as Tennessee, North Carolina State, North Carolina, South Carolina, Clemson, and Georgia Tech.
