Mercyhurst women’s hockey coach Mike Sisti named Louis Goulet assistant women’s hockey coach today. Goulet replaces Aaron Kemp who, after four years with the women’s program, was named Assistant Director of Athletics earlier this year.
“Louis will have some big shoes to fill as Aaron did an outstanding job”, noted Sisti. “We’re glad that Louis has decided to come back to his alma mater.”
Goulet had four stellar years with head coach Rick Gotkin and finished his Mercyhurst career as team captain in 2001-2002. He was the ECAC West Rookie of the Year in 1998-99 during which he amassed 34 points in 28 games. A year later, the Kapuskasing,
Ontario, native was part of a Mercyhurst team that made the move to NCAA Division I. He was a Second Team All-MAAC choice in both his sophomore and junior seasons and elevated himself to the conference’s First Team in his final year. He was part of a team that won the MAAC Hockey League playoffs in 2001 and battled
Michigan to the very end in a 4-3 loss in the NCAA West Regional.
Goulet is sixth all-time in Mercyhurst career points with 157.
After Mercyhurst, Goulet had an eight-year career in professional hockey including stops in Orlando (ACHL, 2002-2003), Manchester (AHL, 2002-2003), San Antonio (AHL, 2003-2004), Cardiff (EIHL, 2005-2006), and two separate stays in Augusta (ECHL, 2003-2004, 2006-2008).
“I’m looking forward to working with Coach Sisti”, said Goulet. He and his staff have put together a well-respected program. I’ll work very hard to maintain the program’s prominence.”
