Lakers Ready to Take on League Leading GMHL Junior A Hockey Team
Mercyhurst Will Host the League Leading Shield of the GMHL on 12/10/08
The Mercyhurst College ACHA D1 hockey team is preparing for a midweek match-up this coming Wednesday night (12/10/08) against the South Muskoka Shield of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League. The South Muskoka Shield is the league leading team out of the GMHL with an overall record of 24-3-1. They also lead their league in goals for with 220 goals in 28 games played falling just 4 goals short of averaging 8 goals per game. They have several players among the league leaders in scoring and a very balanced scoring attack with 11 players averaging over 1 point per game.

The Lakers are very excited to host the league leading South Muskoka Shield this coming Wednesday night at the Mercyhurst Ice Center allowing the opportunity for the Shield players to be seen by both our NCAA D1 men's team and our ACHA D1 men's team.

"This should be a very good match-up", commented Coach McKinnon, who has interest in some of the Shield's players. "This is a very good opportunity to showcase the campus of Mercyhurst while providing these young junior players with an idea of what our ACHA D1 program can offer them. In addition, it also provides these kids with the opportunity to be seen by our Men's NCAA D1 program who are planning to have someone in attendance watching the game".

Game time is set for 7:55pm at the Mercyhurst Ice Center and will be played on Wednesday December 10th.
