Erie, Pa. – Four members of the Mercyhurst College field hockey team earned postseason honors this past week from womensfieldhockey.com. Head coach
Stacey Gaudette was named Division II Coach of the Year while junior
Emily Warren earned Second Team All-American status. Freshmen
Serena Slattery and
Rachel Sluberski were named to the All-Rookie squad.
Gaudette received her second coach of the year honor after leading the Lakers to a 10-9 record, with a 4-4 mark in the PSAC West, two games behind second-place and NCAA Tournament participant Shippensburg. The Lakers also scored one of the biggest upsets of the year, as they were the only team to knock off first place IUP during the regular season.
Warren, who was named a 2008 Longstreth / NFHCA Division II All-American and an All-PSAC performer, picks up her third postseason honor. She led the Lakers in scoring for the second straight season with 15 goals and six assists. Her 36 points were the second most scored by a Laker in a season and had helped her climb into third place all-time for points scored in a career (69).
Slattery and Sluberski both earned spots on the all-rookie squad after helping the team's defense limit opponents to just 2.22 goals per game compared to 3.75 in 2007. Slattery tied for second on the team in points with four goals and four assists while Sluberski notched four helpers for four points.
