Erie, Pa. – Sophomore
Ryan Zapolski of the Mercyhurst College men’s hockey team has been named Atlantic Hockey Association’s Goaltender of the Week for the week of December 1, announced Monday evening by AHA league officials. This is the Lakers second consecutive league honor, as freshman
Phil Ginand earned AHA Rookie of the Week on November 24.
Zapolski has been one of the key reasons why the Lakers have gone undefeated in their last five games (4-0-1). The sophomore netminder accumulated 85 saves this past weekend, stopping 39 in a 4-1 win against Rensselaer and 46 in a 6-4 stunner against No. 7 Princeton. For his efforts, he was named the tournament’s most outstanding player. He is currently 4-0-1 with a goal against average of 1.99 and a save percentage of .944.
Mercyhurst returns to action this weekend, as the Lakers take on AHA foe American International for a pair of games in Springfield, Mass.
