Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College women's hockey team improved three spots to fifth this week in the USCHO.com Top-10 Women's Division I Poll, released Monday afternoon by USCHO.com officials.
The Lakers make their first appearance in the top-5 this season thanks to a two-game sweep of then-No. 4 St. Lawrence this past weekend at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The back-to-back wins helped Mercyhurst improve to 12-4-0 and extend its winning streak to nine games.
Wisconsin retained its top spot with 15 first place votes and 150 points while conference rival Minnesota followed in at second with 135 tallies. Dartmouth and Minnesota-Duluth solidified the third and fourth spots, while with Mercyhurst taking over the fifth spot, St. Lawrence dropped to sixth. New Hampshire, Boston College, Boston University and Wayne State rounded out the top-10.
No. 5 Mercyhurst is back in action on Saturday, January 10 when the Lakers host Vermont in a 2 p.m. contest followed by a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday, January 11.
