Powell Named NSCAA All-Region First Team

Sarah Powell earned first team all-region for the third time.

Erie, Pa. – Sarah Powell of the No. 9 Mercyhurst women's soccer team earned NSCAA/adidas All-Atlantic Region First Team honors, as announced Tuesday. This is Powell's third straight first team all-region distinction, with the first two coming in the Great Lakes Region.

Powell led the PSAC in goals and assists, setting career highs with 24 goals, 55 points and seven game-winning goals. She recorded eight multiple-goal games. She finished fourth in the nation in total goals and fifth in points.  Powell finished her career first in program history with 42 assists, second with 188 points and third with 73 goals. She was named PSAC Tournament MVP after leading the Lakers to the PSAC championship. She earned Daktronics All-America Second Team, first team Daktronics All-Atlantic Region, All-PSAC West First Team, and honorable mention Academic All-District honors this season as well.

Powell played her best soccer late in the season, scoring nine goals and adding one assist for 19 points in six postseason contests. She had a stretch of four consecutive postseason games with two goals in each, beginning in the Lakers' 5-2 win over Slippery Rock in the PSAC Quarterfinal and lasting through Mercyhurst's 3-0 win over The Rock in the NCAA second round Nov. 16. That stretch of games is the best in recent program history. She scored the game-tying goal late in her final game, a 3-2 loss in the NCAA quarterfinals against Saint Rose Nov. 23.

In addition to PSAC and NCAA Atlantic Region team championships, the Lakers (15-5-4) earned 15 individual postseason awards this season.
