Lakers Land Four On All-PSAC Field Hockey Teams

Lock Haven, Pa. – The Mercyhurst College field hockey team was well represented on the 2008 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Field Hockey Teams, as juniors Emily Warren, Lauren Rinaca and Courtney Loper were selected to the PSAC West Second Team while head coach Stacey Gaudette was named PSAC West Coach of the Year.

Warren, a forward from Amherst, N.Y., led the Lakers in scoring for the second straight season with 15 goals and six assists. Her 36 points were the second most scored by a Laker in a season and had helped her climb into third place all-time for points scored in a career (69).

Rinaca, a midfielder from Pylesville, Md., became a standout this season after playing in a limited role during her sophomore campaign. She started 17 of the team's 19 games and was a key component in transitioning the ball to the offense.

Loper, a defender from Harrisburg, Pa., anchored the team's backfield in all 19 games. Her two goals and four assists ranked her seventh in points on the squad.

Gaudette earns Coach of the Year after guiding the team to its first winning season in six years. Mercyhurst finished the season 10-9 overall with a 4-4 record in the PSAC West, two games behind second-place and NCAA Tournament participant Shippensburg. The Lakers also scored one of the biggest upsets of the year, as they were the only team to knock off first place IUP during the regular season.
