Erie, Pa. – Two members of the Mercyhurst College volleyball team were awarded postseason honors Monday afternoon, as seniors
Jenna Matson and
Lauren Kubinski earned spots on the 2008 Daktronics Division II Atlantic Region Volleyball Second Team.
Matson, an outside hitter from Wexford, Pa., earns her second honor of 2008 after being tabbed an All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division First Team performer earlier this month. She ranked second on the team with 359 kills, but tied the team leader in kills per game at 2.78. Defensively, she marked 336 digs and 40 blocks.
Kubinski, an opposite from Erie, Pa., makes her first appearance on a postseason team this year. She led the Lakers through 36 matches with 375 kills and 36 service aces while ranking second on the squad with 83 blocks.
The Lakers concluded the 2008 campaign with their best record in seven years. The team tied the record for most wins in a season with 21 and made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
