Erie, Pa. – Freshman Phil Ginand of the Mercyhurst College men's hockey team has been named the Atlantic Hockey Association's Rookie of the Week for the week of November 24, announced Monday afternoon by AHA league officials. This is the Lakers first honor this season.

Ginand, a forward from Milford, Mass., led all rookie scorers with a goal and three assists as the Lakers downed Army in a two-game series this past weekend. He netted an assist in the team's 6-2 victory Friday night while producing a goal and two helpers on Saturday. His goal, which gave Mercyhurst a 3-2 lead in the second, was his first collegiate marker. The Lakers went on to win the game by a 6-3 margin.

Mercyhurst returns to action this weekend when the Lakers take on Rensselaer in the opening game of the RPI Tournament on Friday, Nov. 28. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
