Knavel Leaving Mercyhurst For Bowling Green
Erie, Pa. – Sports information director Jason Knavel has announced his resignation from Mercyhurst College effective Nov. 8. He has been hired by Bowling Green State University as the Assistant Athletics Director for Athletic Communications.

Knavel began his duties at Mercyhurst in Aug. of 2006 as the SID, overseeing the marketing and public relations of 23 NCAA Division II athletic programs, as well as NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey teams.

“I am grateful for the opportunity that Mercyhurst College gave me,” Knavel said. “The athletic department is thriving and I will miss the opportunity to work daily with the administration and coaches.”

During his time at Mercyhurst, Knavel oversaw the development of live web streaming via the B2 Networks for many athletic events including men’s and women’s hockey, football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s volleyball, wrestling, and men’s and women’s lacrosse. He also completed an overhaul of the website during the summer of 2008, moving the site to Internet Consulting Services. Knavel also took bids and signed a contract with an outside printer to reduce the costs of producing media guides and other department materials.

Mercyhurst College athletic director Craig Barnett is overseeing the hiring of a new sports information director.
